    The Military Outreach Committee (MOC), along with 50 volunteers, collaborated with South Bay Blue Star Moms at the Santa Clara American Region Post facility to assemble 200 holiday care packages for our military troops serving in Afghanistan, Iraq and other remote locations.

    Our chapter had a record attendance of 250+ at the Fall Quarterly Briefing held in Palo Alto. The topic was Active Shooters and The Gilroy Garlic Festival Shooting. Speakers included Santa Clara County DA Jeff Rosen, Palo Alto Police Chief Robert Johnson, FBI SA Michael Gimbel and Gilroy Police Capt. Kurt Svardal, who gave a first-hand account of the response to the shooting.

    FBISFCAAA board members Mariko Kawaguchi, Janice Svendsen and the Human Trafficking Committee (HTC), in partnership with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, spoke at a human trafficking poster compliance training in Redwood City. The goal of the event was to organize and train volunteers to help raise awareness in the hotel/motel industry.

    FBISFCAAA, along with local police, fire, CERT and the Red Cross, had an outreach booth at the 14th Annual Millbrae Japanese Cultural Festival in Millbrae. This festival is organized annually by Kozo Kimura, an alumnus from FBISFCAAA Class 1.

    Alumni members, guests and teens joined Lt. Matt Snelson and three UAS (Drone) pilots from the Fremont Police Department for a presentation on the Fremont PD UAV program.

    The annual FBI National CAAA Leadership Conference took place in Houston, TX from August 14-16.

    Alumni members participated as role players for the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and the Office of Emergency Service in a week-long active shooter exercise at Mills High School. Police, fire and first responders from San Mateo County conducted 20 scenarios using a total of 470 volunteer role players as victims. The event received print and TV news coverage.

    Our Summer Quarterly Briefing was held at Twitter Headquarters in San Francisco. Speakers included SA Michael Gimbel, SSA Enrique Alvarez who spoke about cyber intrusions and Karl Robillard from Twitter for Good.

    Our chapter hosted a booth at the Stanford Shopping Center for the Silicon Valley Safety and Preparedness Fair to share information on community outreach and safety initiatives.
